Do you or your family make any special dishes for the holidays?

My mother is very traditional and usually makes an effort to prepare typical dishes during the holidays. In my country, there are two celebrations that are especially known for their traditional foods:

  1. Holy Week (Easter). During this holiday, a stew made with various grains and salted, dried fish is prepared, which we call “Fanesca”. The tradition is to cook large quantities and share it with neighbors.
  2. Day of the Dead. On this holiday, we make a sweet, thick drink. It is usually from a mixture of different red fruits and purple corn flour. We call it “Colada Morada” because of its purple color. It is served with bread shaped like children, called “guaguas”.

Then, for Christmas, turkey is usually prepared, but those are traditions that did not originate with us.
