What are your daily habits?

My days are filled with many activities related to my work, which keeps me on alert even on weekends. I’m not complaining—I love my job and I love what I do, and I would choose a career in IT all over again if I had to. However, my personal life is also quite active, especially on weekends when I visit my family.

Regardless of the day or what it brings, four habits accompany my routine—they are what bring balance to my life: meditation, mind, body, and emotions.

  • Meditation: Usually in the early hours of the morning. It’s essential for me to connect with God and give thanks for all my blessings. I open my eyes to the light of God so I can see the path He places before me each day.
  • Mind: I study new technologies related to my career, practice languages—English and French for now—read books (not technical ones; I prefer historical novels or science fiction), and write in my journal and on this blog. I also minimize the use of social media and news as much as possible.
  • Body: I do weight training to boost my metabolism—fewer reps, more strength. I prepare my meals at home, reduce my intake of harmful substances like alcohol, sugar, and salt, and make sure to get at least seven hours of sleep.
  • Emotions: Positive thinking, optimism, and a cheerful, kind attitude. I try to perform small acts of kindness that brighten people’s hearts—especially those of our loved ones. I believe in the power of a smile to change anyone’s day.

These four habits sound easy to practice, but they’re not. Like any habit, they require daily practice and discipline. But once we begin to see even the smallest changes in our lives thanks to these habits, the rest becomes instinct.
