What would you change about modern society?

Nothing—We are living through the best and worst moment in history.

This question lingers in my mind because, to me, it has always held a double meaning. I believe that just as it is individually true, the best moment for humanity is right here, right now.

The good things about humanity are at their peak—technological breakthroughs in science, medicine, and innovation. Artificial intelligence signifies an extraordinary milestone. Achieving the highest life expectancy ever recorded is another. We are on the brink of setting foot on a new planet for the first time, marking a significant achievement.
On the other hand, the worst aspects of humanity are also at their peak. There is accelerated destruction of the planet and unprecedented levels of violence. Drug abuse and weapon proliferation are rampant. We face endless wars and the total collapse of family values. The staggering prevalence of anxiety and depression is also clear.

Of course, this is highly debatable, and many would argue that the negatives far outweigh the positives. That’s why, romantically, it’s often said that “any past time was better.” But the truth is—whether for better or worse—this is when and where we are. We must learn to live in the now. We should strive to make this the best time we can as a society.

I wouldn’t change anything about modern society—because the past has already happened. History offers both victories and defeats we must think upon.

If history fails to teach us, we are doomed to repeat it”, they say.

The future of humanity doesn’t yet exist; it is shaped by our individual choices and our collective actions. The past is a lesson, and the future is the one our children will inherit.
