What’s a topic or issue about which you’ve changed your mind?
I was raised in a conservative and deeply religious household. From a very early age, the existence of God was explained to me through the lens of religion. Similarly, my education was built on a religious foundation, like that of most children and adolescents of my generation. Yet I was never capable of understanding God through religion. This lack of understanding led me, for many years, to embrace a form of total agnosticism. It was a philosophical stance that, at the time, honestly defined what God meant to me. I had no faith; I was not a believer.
My life changed a couple of years ago. I came to understand that God does not exist in anything external to my being. I realized that God is not found in other people, places, things, or religions. I found God in the deepest part of myself. He had always been there. It was the last place I ever thought to look. Today, I am a believer and feel joyful in God’s presence. I’ve reclaimed my spirituality and no longer need religion to love God. My life has improved immensely in every way. That includes daily meditation, better physical shape, a good decision taking mind and positive peaceful emotions. That transformation radiates through me. It also affects my family, my work, and my life as a whole.
