Describe a positive thing a family member has done for you.
My family is everything, and the things they’ve done for me are countless. Likewise, there is nothing I wouldn’t do for them. Among all those moments, I want to share the time my dad took me to my very first job interview.
I was 20 years old, a young engineering student. My dad had spoken with some acquaintances of his to help me get an opportunity—any opportunity—to start working. I remember going with him to the interview. It was a small local tech company. We walked into a tiny office: a desk overflowing with papers, a computer, a phone, and a radio.
The manager was a young, friendly man, not yet 40. He knew my dad, so the ice broke quickly. There was an opening for a junior technician. Low pay and a lot to learn. I answered his questions with complete honesty. I genuinely wanted the job. In the end, I got it.
That was 30 years ago. I’m still at the same small company—now a major provider of technological and IT services in my country. The manager, my first boss, is no longer there. I’ve worked with many people and watched so many others come and go. I still have much to give and much to learn.
This is the story of how I got my first—and only—job.
Thank you, Dad.
