In my country, as in most places where extreme forms of devotion exist, religious or cultural traditions are what draw the most attention. From large crowds walking under an intense 35‑degree sun to nighttime baths in mountain waterfalls with water as cold as 5 degrees. Every town has its own way of celebrating religious festivities or important regional dates.

One of the most fascinating traditions in my country is the celebration of La Mama Negra (The Black Mother) in November. It’s a pilgrimage that brings an entire city to a standstill, and thousands of tourists travel there to take part in the celebration. For three days, the streets fill with parades and dance troupes, and visitors search for the best spots to watch the spectacle. It is one of the largest religious celebrations in my country.
