What’s a piece of technology you’re convinced will exist in 20 years?
Cell phones have been with us for more than 20 years, and they will still be with us by the year 2050. However, I believe this everyday device will evolve into more biometric components, fully integrated into some kind of cloud system powered by AI. I think that in 20 years we will no longer carry a small rectangular gadget in our hands. Our bodies will be modified with biometric devices and sensors that not only allow us to make phone calls, send commands to our car, or measure our pulse, but also send sensory signals—such as stress levels, blood sugar, blood pressure, and emotional changes—to a central server that can better manage people’s health. For example, if our alcohol level is too high, our car will not operate for us in manual mode. Or if we are very depressed and standing in the middle of a bridge, the sensor will send an alert signal to local authorities.
It may sound a bit like an invasion of privacy or the plot of a Black Mirror episode, but I believe this is the evolution that mobile devices will undergo in 20 years.
