In many Latin American countries, the population’s level of another language is very low or practically nonexistent. Bilingual education is only offered in private, upper‑class institutions that very few families can afford. I believe that knowledge of multiple languages—especially English and Chinese—should be a social priority and an essential part of the state’s educational methodology. Classes should be taught in several languages in all public schools. In such a globalized world as the one we live in today, young people and adults who speak only their native language face a significant disadvantage in the job market compared to other countries.
