Most conspiracy theories are created to plant reasonable doubt and to discredit the evidence that confirms an undeniable truth. In that sense, we have people who believe the Earth is flat, that JFK was assassinated by extraterrestrials, or that September 11 was a plot by the United States government to justify the war in the Middle East. Of all these conspiracy theories, the one that seems most believable to me is the idea that we never actually reached the Moon, and that it was all a televised spectacle during the space race in the midst of the Cold War.

The credibility of this theory rests on the fact that, if we look back at the footage from that era, it becomes clear how easy it would have been to stage in a television studio all the scenery that was broadcast live in the 1960s. After all, people at that time would believe anything the television media showed them. This setup would have been the plan B in case the Apollo 11 mission had indeed failed to reach our satellite. The truth is that, for many, the moon landing never happened, and we all accepted as real what took place in 1969. Despite the fact that during that landing the astronauts left plenty of evidence of their journey on the lunar surface, humanity has never returned there to confirm that we were actually there.

Personally, I don’t believe in this conspiracy theory, and I think Armstrong, Collins, and Aldrin did walk on that rock, making it the most important expeditionary event in human history to date.
