The first fictional character that came to mind when I read this question was Guy Montag, the protagonist of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, which I just finished reading. I must admit that this is the first time I have read this classic novel, and I was completely hooked.

The story takes place in a dystopian future where reading books is forbidden. Whenever the authorities receive a report that a house contains books, they immediately dispatch specialized firefighters who, instead of putting out fires, start them, burning down the offender’s home along with every book inside it. The offender is then detained and arrested. Guy Montag is one of these firefighters, but he rebels against this society because he secretly keeps books hidden in his own house and is an avid reader. When the authorities attempt to arrest him after burning down his home, he kills his superior and becomes a fugitive. He manages to escape and goes to live in the wilderness, where society’s outcasts and homeless people also reside. Ironically, many of these displaced individuals are scientists, artists, and highly intelligent people who have read extensively.

It is during this period, as Montag interacts with these brilliant minds while struggling to survive in the wilderness, that I would most like to trade places with him for a week. It would be like taking part in a book club amid the open plains and the cold. The irony of the novel is that those who seek knowledge and truth are the unfortunate souls whom society neither understands nor accepts.
