When was the first time you really felt like a grown up (if ever)?

To me, anyone who continues living at their parents’ expense is still a minor. It doesn’t matter how old they are—18, 24, or even 50. If their parents support them in any way, they can’t be considered a fully independent adult.

In that context, I remember leaving my parents’ home at age 25. I was building my own household. That was the first time I truly felt like an adult.

I think I felt like an adult when I took home my first wage packet! I felt rich, even though my wages were pretty poor for the long hours I worked then! It gave me choices. I got married and left home at 25, not having lived away for higher education, so I’ve never lived alone.
