OK, let’s approach this with an open mind. We have holidays to commemorate many things. These include religious observances like Christmas or Easter in the West. We also honor those who have departed this world. Other holidays celebrate harvests or seasonal changes. We remember historical events like the founding of cities, nations or great battles for independence. We have a holiday to mark the turn of the year. It does not fit neatly into any of those categories.

I wish the world would pause its activities to celebrate a new holiday:

A Day of Freedom.

A day to remember that no one should be judged or shackled for their ideas, thoughts, body or emotions. We must respect and protect the freedom of every human being. We should dedicate one day each year to think on this truth. Doing so would honor the phrase: “My freedom ends where yours begins“. We move closer to a world that is freer and more respectful of one another.
