What’s a book that completely surprised you?

Not one but three books by the Israeli writer Yuval Harari have completely surprised me and won me over. His three main works are Sapiens, Homo Deus, and 21 Lessons for the 21st Century.

In Sapiens, the author reflects on the human past and how Homo sapiens—the species we belong to today—came to dominate the modern world. He explores our journey from hunter‑gatherers to farmers, through the Industrial Revolution and into the age of knowledge.

In Homo Deus, the author examines different theories about the future of humanity and how traditional political systems are fading in the rise of information power. He suggests that we are living through a second age of knowledge.

In 21 Lessons, his third major work, the author reflects on the present state of humanity. He highlights the decline of current political systems and how misinformation affects our social coexistence.

Regardless of one’s political or religious philosophy, Harari invites us to reflect, to open our minds, and to free ourselves from the political and religious blindness that affects so many human beings.
