How do you plan the perfect road trip?
The best and most unforgettable trips I’ve ever taken have been by road. They’re long journeys, shared with family or friends, discovering every town and every place along the way. You meet many people and encounter different cultures — even within our own country.
The most important thing on this kind of trip is the vehicle and a well‑trained driver. If you decide to take a journey like this, the vehicle must be in perfect condition. A car that’s more than 10 years old can bring many risks. You don’t want to break down in the middle of nowhere, without even a cell signal to call for help. The vehicle should carry spare parts, water, and extra fuel. Sometimes you need to take secondary roads or cross rivers or landslides. A good vehicle — and the skill of a good driver with some mechanical knowledge — makes the difference between a safe trip and a complete disaster.
A good navigation system and a co‑pilot with strong intuition are also essential. For most of the route, we won’t have cell service, so Internet access will be almost nonexistent. A reliable GPS system or Starlink can guide us to the best route. It’s important to anticipate the road ahead. Ask locals or nearby transport services if there are issues on the roads that the news hasn’t reported yet. The co‑pilot is also in charge of keeping us company with an excellent playlist.
Lastly, it’s important to bring enough supplies and essentials for the trip. Nutritious, non‑perishable food like canned goods, fruit, and water — nothing that requires too much cooking. Many goods can be bought along the way. Also flashlights, extra batteries, ropes, blankets, tents, proper extra clothing, and so on. A portable power station is highly recommended.
With all this, we’re ready to enjoy one of life’s greatest experiences: a multi‑day road trip. Don’t forget to document the journey with photos and videos at all times. A drone will give us an excellent view of the terrain and help spot potential problems on the road that can’t be seen from the ground. And every morning, coffee is a must before starting the day’s adventure.
