There’s a popular saying in Spanish that goes, “Un clavo saca a otro clavo,” or its English equivalent, “The best way to get over someone is to get under someone else.” Despite how common it is, nothing could be further from the truth. No relationship is healed by starting another one. A relationship is healed through solitude, time, and what we choose to do with that time. We must be whole again—healthy, grounded, and genuinely happy with ourselves—before beginning anything new.
