Normally, younger people don’t listen to older ones. Most of them need to live their own experiences — to learn the hard lessons that the old also learned when they were young. And for that same reason, they didn’t know how to listen.

If a young person were to ask me, I’d tell them that there are two ways to learn in life: “Learn from the foolish things older people did, or learn from your own foolish things.” Every young person gets to choose. We already know which choice is the wiser one.
