Do lazy days make you feel rested or unproductive?

I believe in proposals to change the workweek to better balance in-person work, remote work, and rest days. I think the old standard of weekdays and weekends is now obsolete. It doesn’t show current realities. This is especially true with technological advances in communication and the post-pandemic experience.

In that sense, I believe workdays should offer flexible hours but be highly productive. It’s better to work intensely for four hours in the morning. Doing so is more effective than spending eight hours at a workplace and producing half as much. Quality over quantity.

Of course, there are different types of jobs that don’t lend themselves to flexible schedules, remote work, or shorter workweeks. Everything must be analyzed in its proper context. What does need to change is the assumption that all jobs still fit the traditional 8×5 model. Both employers and employees must be open to shifting schedules according to the projects they’re in.

Rest days should truly be for rest. If I’ve met my productivity quota in two or three workdays, I have more time for other activities. I can use the rest of the week for these interests. If I am productive in two or three days, I free up the rest of the week. I can spend that time doing other activities. Personally, I don’t feel unproductive on rest days if I’ve had a productive week. On those days, I try to relax, unwind, and engage in activities unrelated to my usual work.
