How do you stay motivated when learning something new?

Just as we should exercise every day, the mind also needs to be trained for 30 minutes a day by learning something new. We’ve already managed to pick a time of day, put on our workout clothes and shoes, and head to the gym to pump some iron or run 3 kilometers around the neighborhood.

Now we need to choose a time in the day, prepare our favorite corner of the house, turn off the TV, keep the phone far away, and dedicate that moment to learning something new. It could be a hard skill, a musical instrument, a new language, or simply diving into our favorite book.

Just like physical exercise, this is a personal and non‑negotiable moment in which we must be consistent. Discipline is the key in both cases and the force that keeps us motivated. When we are disciplined and consistent, these activities become routine — and routine becomes unconscious.

We grow old when we stop learning
