What’s the best way to build self-confidence?
To develop self‑confidence, I’m not sure if the best way is to record a video of yourself. I’ve heard that in many psychological therapies for people with low self‑confidence, professionals often recommend making a video of yourself doing the activities you want to improve.
For example, if I want to improve my technique at the gym, I can record a video of my squats to see whether I’m keeping my back straight and going all the way down. If I want to improve my posture and the way I speak in public, I can make a full‑body video of myself talking about a topic to see whether my voice, posture, and body language match what I want to communicate. A tripod is very useful in this case.
If I want to improve my performance with a musical instrument, I can record a video of my best drum solos or guitar riffs, and I’ll know how people would hear and see me.
In these times of reels and live streams on social media, taking selfies is very easy. However, it’s important to make sure the videos are completely real, without filters or AI modifications—something that has also become very common on social media today. The video we make of ourselves should be a faithful reflection of reality, so that we can be our own critics and understand the specific points we need to improve.
My point is, we should see ourselves from a different point of view and be our own first ruthless critic.
