What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

I remember some time ago seeing, in a TV series or a movie, a scene where someone reproaches a company’s CEO with the comment: “You have no heart,” and the CEO replies:

“My heart is at home with my family. Here at the company I am mind and balls.”

That phrase couldn’t have had a better impact on me, because it is completely true and it perfectly sums up the attitude we must have toward what is important and what is a priority in life. Family is everything, and they are our weakness. Our heart, our feelings, and our emotions are always with them. We give everything for them, and we make whatever sacrifices need to be made.

When we step out into the world, the heart stays at home. Out there, we must be mental and battle‑ready. Out there, we don’t make decisions with emotions. It is our intelligence, experience, wisdom, and intuition that guide our steps—sometimes with indulgence and compassion, and other times with tenacity and ferocity.

The world outside is cold, harsh, and merciless, and we must learn to survive in that environment. The moment we return home, that coldness and hardness fall away, and we become pure heart again for the ones we love.
