How do you deal with uncertainty?

Uncertainty creates anxiety, and anxiety is nothing more than fear of the future. The future does not exist, so we shouldn’t fear something that isn’t real. But anxiety is real, because our mind and our emotions betray us, making us believe that the worst‑case scenario is the most likely one.

If we’re capable of investing all our energy into imagining the worst, why can’t we direct that same energy toward imagining the best? That’s how anxiety is controlled: by placing all our thoughts into idealizing the best possible scenario.

How do we begin to do that? With breathing techniques. When worry about the future starts to take over, we need to pause and practice breathing exercises like 4‑4‑4: four seconds inhaling, four seconds holding the breath, and four seconds exhaling. By doing this for one minute, it’s very likely that all our worries will have faded away.
